Suspected or documented acute anemia (< 18 years)

Inclusion Criteria  (Any one criteria present)
  • Clinical signs of acute blood loss, consumption or distruction
  • Chronic anemia at risk for worsening anemia
  • Initial discovery of hemoglobin less than 8 with no known cause
Exclusion Criteria
  • Chronic stable anemia
  • Obvious traumatic cause of known anemia or hemodynamic instability

Treat appropriately, consider hematology consult
